Deacon Phil Luevanos

Deacon Phil Luevanos began his Catholic education attending St. Frances of Rome Catholic School and then graduated from Bishop Amat High School. He and his lovely wife, Rene' have been married since 1979 and have three grown sons, a wonderful daughter-in-law and three grandchildren.  They have been parishioners for over 38 years. He spent most of his career working for the Thoroughbred Horse Racing Industry throughout Southern California, having worked 36 years as a member of the track crew and has been retired for over 9 years.

In 2007, he entered the Permanent Diaconate program and was ordained in 2012.  After ordination he began ministry here in his home parish of St. Dorothy.Very soon however, his gifts and talents were noticed by the Administration of the Archdiocese and he was called upon to administer All Souls Parish, Alhambra during the absence of a Pastor.

Later a similar situation occurred in the San Fernando Pastoral Region, except this time it was two contiguous parishes but in two different cities: St. Catherine of Siena, Reseda and St. Bridget of Sweden, Van Nuys.  With the appointment of a priest Administrator to St. Bridget’s in July 2015, Deacon Phil continued to administer St. Catherine of Siena, Reseda until June 30 of 2016, when a Pastor was appointed there.

In September of 2016 they were invited as a Deacon Couple to St. Denis, Diamond Bar, by Msgr. James Loughnane.  However, he was also hired there as Director of Stewardship and Development, as well.

And presently, in December of 2019 they were invited back as a Deacon Couple to St. Dorothy, by Fr. Ron Clark. They are very active in many capacities throughout our Archdiocese as well.  They just completed the responsibility of a five year commitment as the Journey Couple for the Archdiocese Diaconate Formation Program, he is a Stational Deacon at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles, and a Deacon Council Representative for the San Gabriel Region. He is presently a member of our leadership committee and staff, involved with our Outreach Ministries St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Homeless Shelter Program and the GMA, Glendora Ministerial Association.

He loves St. Dorothy’s parish and appreciates how everyone is involved with serving in many different ministries.  He also appreciates how the church is involved with serving the community.  Deacon Phil’s favorite hobby is gardening, cooking and being outdoors.
